Following is some of the initial thinking in our process
Mission
Equipping local congregations to share the transforming love of Messiah Jesus with their Jewish friends and neighbors.
Primary Objective
Reach the 2,000,000 Jewish people in medium and small U.S. cities, who have little or no sustained Gospel ministry, with the news of their Messiah in a sensitive and effective way through a network of trained, local congregations.
Secondary Objectives
1) Make available to any local church training in the Jewish roots of their faith and study tours to Israel that
will spiritually deepen their people.
2) Support CMJ work in Israel through regular presentation of that work to constituent congregations of CMJ-USA.
Operating Guidelines
· Although we will happily serve individuals committed to any of our goals, the emphasis will be on developing knowledge and skills in local congregations for the work of Gospel ministry among Jewish people and the deepening of their Christian faith.
· Although we have a ‘natural’ constituency among evangelical Anglicans, our work will be ecumenical by design. The ultimate objective for any city outreach is a consortium of Christian congregations, working in a sustained partnership, to reach Jewish people in their city with news of their Messiah.
‘Product’ Development. For the Co-laborer work we will use a progressive program of teaching and training that equips congregations to reach their neighbors and eventually become catalytic leaders in that outreach with other congregations. At this point we think that involves three tracks of teaching/training. Material from these tracks can be ‘re-packaged’ for use with Partner and Friend congregations.
1. Developing a Jewish understanding of the Bible and Christian discipleship through extensive Jewish roots teaching. This is for the dual purpose of authentically relating to Jewish people and being better followers of Jesus. This, when possible, involves a visit to Israel to enrich biblical study and understanding.
2. Training and practice in the process of sharing with friends and acquaintances the news that Jesus is the Messiah, sent by God for Jewish people first, and then the nations, not for the purpose of establishing a Gentile religion.
3. Modifying the life of the congregation so that it is more rather than less welcoming to Jewish people. This is the most experimental track, and involves a combination of special services (Feasts, Shabbat), style of services, greater emphasis on home worship and teaching, and targeted small groups.
